Biography

Marcus Nathan Young was born November 30, 1971 to Jack and Linda Young in Anderson, Indiana. Marcus is the younger brother to Stephanie who has two children named Shelby and Logan. Marcus who was diagnosed with Dyslexia at a young age. He has struggled with his learning disability his whole life. Marcus' parents were advised he would struggle with subjects like math and reading but, he would excel in the areas of art and music. To this day Marcus enjoys art, music, history, movies and writing (journals, lyrics). You will rarely see him sit down and read a book because he has difficulty comprehending what he is reading.

Marcus first started attending the Chesterfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at the age of 12 in August of 1984 shortly after the passing of his grandmother Maybel Young. In junior high school Marcus began playing Alto Saxaphone in the school band but, it wouldn't be until he was 15 years old when he would start singing in the church choir. Marcus was asked to be the "balloon boy" for the church youth musical. "At first when the choir director approached me I thought she was going to ask me to sing, I was mordified", said Marcus. The very next year he was singing in the youth choir and by the next summer he had sang his first solo in church. He was hooked!

Marcus graduated from Highland High School in 1990. He majored in music education at Anderson University but, dropped out after he recieved a letter from the dean suggesting he change his major. Marcus later graduated from Indiana Business College with an associates degree in Business Management.

Marcus recorded his first custom recording "Faith, Hope and Love" in 1994 at Pinebrook Recording Studios now called Gaither Recording Studios. His second custom recording "Breaking Though" came two years later. During the winter of 1996 Marcus auditioned for a Nashville Talent Agent and was asked if he would be interested in participating in a talent contest. A few weeks later Marcus Young was singing on stage at the Grand Ole' Opry where he came in 11th out of 110 contestants. Marcus was approached by a producer backstage and was asked to record what would become his first demo. Marcus later cut his ties with this producer claiming he just didn't feel it was going anywhere and he felt God was leading to something else.

In 1997 Marcus teamed with producer Randy Melson and recorded a three song demo. Marcus said he considers this the official start of his singing career. Marcus recorded his third custom recording "Let God Love You" in 1999. Marcus recorded his most recent project "Heart's Fire" in 2003.

"When I decided to record another CD, I had no idea what to expect. During the initial stages of production all we had to work with were a few song ideas", said Marcus. During the four months of production "Heart's Fire" became what he believes was the turning point in his than ten year career as an artist. Marcus still believes "Heart's Fire" is the foundation that the rest of his career will be based upon. "Heart's Fire definately is a mile stone for me", said the artist.

2003 lead to the release of the CD (Heart's Fire) and a 9 month long concert tour performing over 50 concerts nationally. "The tour was awesome and people were encouraging everywhere I went but, I was glad to see the tour come to an end. I was drained physically, emotionally, spiritually and finacially", said Young. He says after a few short months he found himself completely withdrawn from his career and church. The two very things that were his life! It would be two years before Marcus would come to this point in his life to say he is ready to move forward again.
